Learn all about the different bats of backyard ball ranging from the original to the Moonshot!

. Few things feel as good as the right bat in your hands. Thirty years you could find a king kong red bat or the standard wiffle ball bat, 32 inches long 1 1/4 in diameter and there is virtually no wieght to it. Over the years the options for bats have become numerous. Easton, Louisvillie, Moonshot, Ripken, Screwball, and many others including aluminum bats.

How do you know which bats work the best? I bought them all and had trial and error, it is fun but expensive to do this method.

You can google things and read reviews if you can find them or you can hang around here and read and watch video’s on equipment performance.

The goal here is to educate you on these products to make the right choices in acquiring the right bat for your needs. Your ball park size, rules, and style will determine the best bat for you and your league.

Something to consider is the cost of the bats. The standard yellow Wiffle Ball Bat cost $2 roughly, but the Moonshot Bat can cost upwards of $160. Many bats range between $8 and $30, the Aluminum bats run in the $40 to $60 range.

The reviews you will find here, have video footage and 30 years of playing experience commentary. You will know the pro’s on con’s from the bats, as well as distance balls can go, durability and where to find them.

As a special part of this section we will show you how to customize a bat as well. After all players have been customizing bats since baseball began. Tape, grips, stuffing, dowels, we will review everything we have done and the results that followed.

Build a field and become a Major League Player in your world . . .the memories will make you feel like you dipped yourself in magic water.

This is where we become, Reggie, Manny, Yaz, Stan the Man . . .we can copy the batting stance, mimic the players and even wear the team uniform and hats. To this day I can still copy every stance and remember the batting order for the 1977 and 1978 Red Sox . . . . Remy, Burleson, Lynn, Rice, Yaz, Fisk, Evans, Scott, Hubson. Who always played vs the Yankee’s . . . Rivers, Randolph, Chambliss, Munson, Jackson, Nettles, Johnson, Dent . . . .those were the days.

Creating your own field only takes some imagination a few eager players and can be done in few hours. I have created fields in parking lots, small backyards, big backyards and the classic Little Ebbets Field.

In my book Backyard Ball I review all the aspects of building a field.

Here are some basic tips:

You need atleast 75 feet from home plate

A clear homerun marker

some great custom rules

strike box or lawn chair

level ground is best

If your looking for great things for your field you can find them at,

Excursions to health, they have lots of great Backyard Ball Products.
